Description

What is ninjutsu? What most believe they know of the ninja and of ninjutsu is only a pale reflection of reality. For instance, the commonly held image of the black clad ninja is a recent invention. A whole class of fantasy literature has developed over the years, making the ninja out to be a superman, giving him awesome and terrifying magical capabilities. Influenced by the popular vision of the ninja, most see ninjutsu as an arcane science, one that combines shadowy practices with deadly combat techniques. Often defined in English as "the art of remaining unseen' even this definition of ninjutsu does not adequately illustrate the traits of invisibility, anonymity and secrecy that are the pillars of the art. Simply put, ninjutsu is a collection of adaptable survival techniques that allows the practitioner to face the uncertainties of life and to respond to dangerous situations, through physical and psychological discipline, where one uses orthodox weapons in unorthodox ways.
This book takes ninjutsu research to a new level. It is the fruit of more than 10 years of study, practice and investigation into the art of ninjutsu. It includes studies of ninjutsu history, philosophy, and wisdom, and presents a wide range of information from authors, historians, chronicles and scrolls in order to foster a deep understanding of this shadowy art. Dr. Kacem Zoughari is a researcher on Japanese studies and holds a Ph.D. in the history of Japanese classical martial arts from the prestigious INALCO (National Institute of Oriental Civilization and Languages) in Paris. Zoughari is an internationally recognized authority on the Japanese martial arts and is also a licensed instructor of ninjutsu. He conducts seminars in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Shihan Christopher Davy holds a tenth degree black belt under Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi Soke of Noda City, Japan. He has traveled to Japan many times to train and research the Bujinkan arts. He has been training in martial arts for over thirty-three years and is Shidoshi at the Bujinkan Yume Dojo in Lost River, West Virginia.
