The bo is a 6-foot wooden staff used by karate students in the practice of kobudo, the weapons art that has evolved along with karate over the centuries. It has become one of the most widely used of the ancient kobudo weapons. Today, martial artists of many styles use the bo to improve all their skills: hand coordination, balance, footwork, speed and power. Included in this DVD are the most important criteria you need to learn and master the use of the bo: grasping, striking, blocking, kata, maneuvering and application. In Demura's lifetime of devotion to the martial arts, he has won the All Japan Karate Free-fighting Championships (1961), has twice been voted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame and is recognized the world over as one of the premier martial artists of all time. Now a foremost authority in kobudo and karate, Demura sensei travels the world to teach these arts. At the age of 12 Fumio Demura started training under Ryusho Sakagami in Shito-ryū Itosu Kai. After receiving his black belt and winning the East Japan Karate Championship, in early 1958 Demura began training in kobudō, a style of Okinawan weapons training, under the direction of Sensei Shinken Taira. Demura is renowned for his abilities as a weapons instructor and taught famous martial arts movie performers such as Bruce Lee and Steven Seagal.
