Originally adapted from an Okinawan farm implement, martial artists throughout the world now use the tonfa as a weapon. Even law enforcement agencies use the tonfa as a replacement for the baton. Indeed, kobudo (practicing with ancient weapons) is now an established art that can be practiced by men, women and children for defense as well as performing kata (techniques) in their martial art. In this DVD, Demura sensei shows proper grips, strikes, stances, defense moves, attacks and other techniques that will improve your overall skill and coordination. In Demura's lifetime of devotion to the martial arts, he has won the All Japan Karate Free-fighting Championships (1961), has twice been voted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame and is recognized the world over as one of the premier martial artists of all time. Now a foremost authority in kobudo and karate, Demura sensei travels the world to teach these arts. At the age of 12 Fumio Demura started training under Ryusho Sakagami in Shito-ryū Itosu Kai. After receiving his black belt and winning the East Japan Karate Championship, in early 1958 Demura began training in kobudō, a style of Okinawan weapons training, under the direction of Sensei Shinken Taira. Demura is renowned for his abilities as a weapons instructor and taught famous martial arts movie performers such as Bruce Lee and Steven Seagal.
